The Joker has Great Taste

I was able to see a pre-screening of The Dark Knight today (tee hee) and it was AMAZING. I don’t want to give anything away but the stunts, the action… it was very intense. Definitely a go-see!!

My only grievances: a) It made me kind of homesick since it was filmed in Chicago and I recognized so many buildings/areas/etc. and b) Heath Ledger is not going to be able to reprise his role… RIP…

His performance blew me away. COMPLETELY.

WOW!!

Let’s just say any awards he receives will not be out of pity.

Now for the film’s fabulous stylings:

Just read over the official press release… the Joker (Heath)’s shoes were from Milan ;). How stylish for a psychopath! Costume designer Lindy Hemming based the Joker’s look on the “Carnaby Street Mod look.” I love it:

Straight from the release:

Hemming explains, “Once I knew the Joker was going to be played by Heath Ledger, I wanted the costume to have a younger, trendier style than the previous versions. Basically, my research ranged from Vivienne Westwood to Johnny Rotten to Iggy Pop to Pete Doherty to Alexander McQueen. I was collecting all sorts of images.”

Hemming ultimately designed an ecclectic ensemble that she says “has a somewhat foppish attitude to it, with a little grunge thrown in.” Staying with the Joker’s traditional color palette, his outfit is topped by a purple coat, worn over a green waistcoat. Changing up his look, he also wears a lighter jacket that was based on the Carnaby Street Mod look. His shirt was patterned after a shirt that Hemming found at an antique market.

The Joker’s shoes are from Milan and were selected by the costume designer because they had an upward swoop at the toe, which she thought was reminiscent of clown shoes. His tie was fashioned by Turnbull & Asser, a London-based clothier better known for dressing British Royalty and the like.

(Warner Brothers)

What a great way to incorporate a little fashion into the movie for all of us fashion-afficionados!

Also, all of Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne)’s suits were by hand made to measure by Giorgio Armani. He looked HOT!!
