The New “It” Staples

Ok, so I know staples are supposed to be timeless and classic, but I’m not at the point yet where I have the money to invest in a Chanel chain bag.

Instead of going for “trends,” I see myself as going for this summer’s staples.

Tomorrow I’m going closet hunting for:

High-waisted shorts… I want a cute pair to pair (haha, say that out loud… or am I just tired? ) with this “burn out tee” I ordered from Intuition. That tee tucked into a high waist with some glads (see below) = Saturday afternoon brunch.

Gladiator Sandals… I never liked the hideous Balenciaga-inspired knee-high gladiators that the Olsen twins frolicked around in and were still lingering at the Met Gala. However, I love simple gladiator styles. My favorites are these by Jeffery Campbell:

Jeffery Campbell “Tiger”– 69.95 at Nordies

Jeffery Campbell “Roman Beads” — 69.95 at Nordies

I recently discovered his line surfing Nordstrom.com and Shopintuition.com. They look really well made and aren’t very expensive. I’m keeping my eye on him.

A Navy Blazer… I read a profile on thesartorialist.com today about a man whose signature is to add a touch of navy blue to everything he wears. I love wearing navy with jeans or white pants in the summer, and a navy blazer will be good for cooler summer days. In my opinion, a black blazer is too bold and deadening for happy summer days or even a casual summer night. I want to get a good, light, fitted true-blue navy blazer.

A Big Day-to-Night Clutch… I love totes, but I am ready to step out of my comfort level. It’s not like you ever NEED more than your keys, cell phone, plastic and cash. I am liking that clutches are going BIG this season rather than being the little sister that goes inside of your big purse.
